ABOUT THE YOGA
Jivamukti Yoga is a focused and dynamic practice, grounded in the belief that yoga has the power to transform not only the practitioner but the way in which the practitioner relates to the world.
This core belief is expressed through 5 tenets, which form the foundation of Jivamukti Yoga:
Ahimsa: A nonviolent, compassionate lifestyle extending to other animals, the environment and all living beings.
Bhakti: Offering the efforts of our practice to something higher than ourselves.
Dhyana: Meditation; connecting to the unchanging source within.
Nada: The development of the sound body and mind through deep listening, utilising music & spoken word as supporting tool
Shastra: Exploration of ancient yogic teachings and Sanskrit chanting.
During the course of the week you will experience each of the 5 tenants as we move consciously through yogic practices that will leave you feeling reinvigorated and fully present.
Each morning will start with chanting, meditation & pranayama, followed by a deep & purposeful asana practice. The group size will be intimate, therefore creating the opportunity for personal attention & hands on assists to help you align and deepen your practice. Each afternoon Rowena will be offering a mixture of classes & workshops designed to explore specific asanas in more detail.
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher
Rowena Johnson is a certified Jivamukti teacher and has been practicing yoga asana since 2008. What began as physical pursuit, soon developed into a deeper awareness of body, mind and spirit. She became curious about the history, physiology and philosophy of this practice and began to explore this curiosity through various workshops, retreats, and the completion of her first teacher training in India. Since then she has gone on teach in the UK, Central and South America, and as a main teacher on a 200hr TTC in India.
Rowena believes in the importance of being a student first and foremost, which has led her to further her study of Ashtanga yoga under the guidance of Sharath Jois at KPJAYI in Mysore and Jivamukti under the guidance of David Life, Anja Kuehnel & Rima Rani Rabbath in Costa Rica. Rowena currently lives in Berlin and is a resident teacher at Jivamukti Yoga Berlin. go to Rowenas website
