ABOUT THE YOGA

Our day-to-day lives can be the source of comfort, security and nourishment, but they can also leave us feeling stuck, sad and angry. Likewise, our thoughts and daydreams can be the basis for both inspiration and frustration.

This retreat is an invitation to look at the relationships we have with our ‘heaven’ and with our ‘earth’, and to make friends with them both using yoga and meditation, in order to gain access to the still point that sits between them.

‘Earth’ represents gravity, food and material things. Earth is the exhale - it has a downward moving energy; it is the ground on which we stand, it is our foundation. Heaven represents air, possibility, ideas and vision. ‘Heaven’ is the inhale – it’s the deep breath we take before leaping into the unknown.

Yoga and meditation are practices of joining those two forces - of balancing our need to touch the ground, to have deep roots which hold us steady in the most turbulent times, with our need to feel free, able to grow and explore.

In this week-long retreat we will practice meditation, yin yoga and vinyasa, and use them as tools for examining our circumstances with calmess, trusting the ground we stand on, and giving ourselves to the open space of uncertainty.

Balance comes not from holding onto a situation, but from making friends with heaven and earth

Naomi Mark

Vinyasa Flow, Ashtanga
& Yin Yoga Teacher

Naomi was born in a small Jewish-Arab community in Israel in 1986. Yoga found her about ten years ago when she was living in Tel Aviv, working for the rights of prisoners in the Israeli jails and detention centers on behalf of an human rights organization. Under those stressful working conditions she discovered in Yoga a practice of cultivating a sense of well-being and health towards her body and herself. This practice became part of her ever since. After taking part in an intensive teacher-training both in Rishekesh, India and in Berlin Naomi teaches today in several studios in Berlin, e.g. YellowYoga. Along with yoga, she has a long background in dance and movement.
