An Awakening Experience- A Journey of Exploration

Intermediate ✺ 12-18 October 2023 ✺ Casa Erica, Málaga, Spain

Join CJ & Shelby in an Awakening Yoga Retreat Experience where we will dive into the depths of curiosity and self-discovery in your yoga practice. Awakening Yoga offers a unique perspective to the modern yoga system. It is designed to respect the traditions of yoga with a functional approach to yoga asana, unlocking the keys to your fullest potential.

Awakening Yoga is composed of four foundational pillars: vinyasa, mobility, strength, and restore. The collaboration of these unique facets provides accessibility & diversity for all practitioners to explore the unlimited opportunities to suit the practice to fit what you need in the moment. Mentally and physically, this practice deconstructs outdated ideas and creates new perspectives for yourself through the lens of breath and movement, mediation and expression.

Each morning, we will practice “The Set” from the Awakening Yoga system. This vinyasa practice is a set sequence, allowing you familiarity and ritual each morning. Starting your day fresh, this sequence is centered around energetic principles and anatomical areas of focus to create a well-rounded experience.

Evening classes will expand upon the pillars of the Awakening Yoga style to study new elements of exploration behind the asana practice. Each day will focus on a specific asana aspect to further enhance the reasoning behind the Awakening Yoga structure. In these classes we will understand how movement and breath pertains to our own unique individual experience.

Carleton James Yeagley

CJ gravitates towards connection. Connection with movement, to people, to his emotions of mind, body & spirit. He found yoga after playing sports growing up and throughout college. Wanting to learn more about the asana side of the practice, CJ found Patrick Beach, Carling Harps, & Awakening Yoga Academy. He’s been learning and training with them for the past seven years and has been a full-time yoga teacher for the past nine years. CJ has a Masters in Exercise Science and has taught 1000+ hours of public classes, not including workshops, retreats, and private sessions. He has filmed 100+ classes on Patrick & Carling’s yoga platform, Commune Online, consisting of strong vinyasa and ease-filled practices. CJ’s classes are a wonderful balance of structure & freedom. Meeting you in your moment of effort & ease. He hopes to leave you with good vibes and positive energy.

Shelby Heintzelman

Shelby strives to help people gain awareness in their bodies, encouraging attention to the breath to move them into a mind-body connection. Her flows are a combination of strength and balance with intentional movement woven into a mindfully creative sequence. Shelby received her 200hr vinyasa training with Yoga Works in Santa Monica, CA. She since has continued to train under Patrick Beach and Carling Harps, where she went on to complete her 300hr advanced training with Awakening Yoga Academy. She also has filmed 100+ classes on Patrick & Carling’s yoga platform, Commune Online, consisting of strong vinyasa and ease-filled practices.

Her sincere goal is for people to learn how to show up for themselves, practice compassion, self love, and use their yoga practice as a time for them to turn inward and release the stresses of life. Shelby’s hope is that people leave her classes feeling inspired, challenged, fresh, and with a sense of clarity that translates into their everyday lives.

about the place

Casa Erica is where it all begun and where we host retreats since 2014. It is a home to us, which we love to share. Peacefully located on the coast of Andalusia, between Málaga and Nerja. The beach in walking distance.

What we love most about it are the pastel sunsets, the wild beaches and the laid back Andalusian mentality. Also our dog Alpha and cat Hanuman live here. More
